A traighook is a homemade instrument used for twisting ropes. To make a traighook you must get a long sally rod, you must get a rod that bends well because if not, it will break when you are bending it. The rod stretches straight at the bottom and then it bonds almost half way at the top. Then you get a bit of cord and tie the bent part of the rod to the straight part, leaving about an inch or an inch and a half at the bent end to hold the straw when twisting it. The cord is caught at the bended end and tied across at the straight end. At the bottom of the straight part of the rod there is a little round knot. There is a little board about six inches long and about three inches wide. In the middle of this there is a round hole and the rod goes through this and is caught by the little knot. On each side of this there are also two hobs. A little piece of rope or cord goes round this and through these two holes the rope is tied, this is to keep the rod bound behind your back when you are twisting.
