- The Patron Saint of Rush is Saint Maur. As Saint Maur was a French man the following story tells how he became Patron Saint of Rush. One time a number of Crusaders were going out to the Holy Land to fight against the Turks. A great storm arose and their ship was driven towards the Irish coast. As they were in danger of losing their lives, they made a vow that on the spot where they would land they would build a church in honour of Saint Maur. They came ashore at Rogerstown and built a church there in honour of Saint Maur. The gable-end and a window can still be seen in Whitestown graveyard. On the Spout Road close to Whitestown graveyard there is a holy well called Saint Maurs Well. Long ago people were in the habit of visiting this Holy Well as the water was supposed to(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
