- Festival Customs
It is the custom in this district for men or boys to gather together and go around the houses singing and collecting money on St Stephen's night. They are called the "Wren Boys" because the first line of the song the sing is :-
"The wren, the wren, the king of all birds."
When they are finished they assemble outside a shop window and divide the money giving each person an equal share or sometimes they arrange to hold a party in one of their houses.
Other important feast are Saint Brigid's Day, Saint Patrick's Day, Shrove Tuesday, Easter Monday, Whit Monday, All Soul's Day and Michaelmas Day.
