A former owner of Castletown house was speaker Connelly a member of Henry Grattan's Parliament which was held in the old Irish Parliament house now the Bank of Ireland in Collage Green. He built the Obelisk of Maynooth in order to give employment in the famine times. It is now called "Connelly's Folly." He also built the wonderful barn which is between Castletown and Leixlip Church.
