The Storm of 1839
There was a great storm in this district in the year 1839. It was called the dreadful storm of '39. There was considerable damage done in this part of the country by it. Most of the people were forced to run out of their houses because some of them were burned to ashes and the roofs were blown of the others. There were five or six houses in a line near Ballinasloe and they were destroyed by fire. There were also people burned in those houses.
