- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The battle of Aughrim was raging and a woman took flight with two children and took shelter in St Alaghton's Church. Being unable to carry the children any further she left one of them in the church and went on her way. After some time she returned and to her delight she found the child alive and well. She also found it was fed by a branch that grew through the wall from an ash tree that grew outside. A part of the ash tree is there still. It is said that there is a pot of gold hidden in the graveyard, and that a snake is guarding it and on a moonlight night the shadow of the top of the church was pointing it out.
