    While nothing of national importance has taken place in the small area for which this school caters there must have been many happenings of local interest but little is known of them. The little there is known will be dealt with writings to follow. This dearth of local knowledge is probably due to the fact that the movements of population in towns is much more frequent than in rural areas. In the surrounding country there are farms which have been in possession of the ancestors of the present owners for many generations while in business premises in the town very few second generation owners exist. One example will illustrate how rapidly owner succeeds owner in business concerns. Forty years ago the principal Drapery Store in Ballinasloe was Sharpe's, Society St. A few years later it was sold to Jackson Brothers. Later it became Muffet's and for the past fifteen or sixteen years it has been owned by Mr Cullen. All four owners carried on the same business. Many other instances could be given to show how quickly ownership changes, bringing a consequential change in
