- On St Stephen's Day it is the custom for a number of boys and grown-up men to go around from house to house and collect money to "bury the wren". First of all they arrange to meet and disguise themselves so that they would not be known. They dress in old clothes and hats, turn their coats inside out sometimes put masks or old cloths on their faces so that nothing can be seen but the eyes. Some of them carry musical instruments, such as mouth organs, melodeon, fiddle. One of the party carries a box where he puts the money received. Formerly they used carry a wren in a holly bush which they used catch the day before. They start on their rounds very early in the morning(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
