- Ireland is far famed for its beautiful green lanes, boreens as they are called by the people.
Some of them have quaint old Irish names, denoting some episode that happened in the past and from which they take the name.
In the townland of Sonnagh there is the "Gambler's Road" about a hundred years ago the board of works planned a new road from Loughrea to Gort across the mountain to give the poor people employment.
There was a certain sum of money allowed by the government, but before quarter of the work was done the money had gone out. The men instead of doing the work played cards all day the making of the road came to(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
