- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Consumption and severe colds were cured by Meacan na gCaorach. The following ingredients were used: Sugar, Candy, liquorice, whiskey, Sweet-stick, brown sugar, a small quantity of flax seed and meacan na gcaorach, which is a garden vegetable with large green leaves and yellow flowers. All these ingredients were boiled together and made into a syrup. It was considered a perfect cure for those in the early stages of consumption.
Cure for the Flu: During the great epidemic of influenza (1918-19) people carried garlic round with them as it was considered very good for keeping the 'flu away.
Dachrán. This is a three-leaved herb which grows in bog drains. It was boiled for a considerable time and the liquid was given to animals, suffering from mourn and was considered an excellent cure. Delicate people also drank it. It was also hung over the fire until it was made quite hot.
