- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)I got the following information from Pat Mannion, Kilcreevanty, who is over 77 years of age. Previous to the starting of the Land League in 1879, the Fenian Organisation was very active and was putting a great check on cruel landlords who were threatening evictions. The late Patrick Nally of Balla, Co. Mayo, together with other leaders brought 500 men from Co. Mayo to deal with the Bodkin's bailiff from Kilclooney. They had a coffin with them and they put the head bailiff into it, but on giving an undertaking that he would resign his position as bailiff, he was released. Several shorts were discharged. The bailiff's name was Mathew Leonard. Shortly after this Patrick Nally and others were arrested for the "Mayo Conspiracy'' very much to the regret of all Irishmen.
