    In olden times it was an old custom when two went to be married, to await them at the door with an oatmeal cake already broken and pretend to break it on the bride's head as she entered the home.
    In former days there was also what is known as the 'hauling home'. At that time people usually got married late in the evening and as there were no motor cars in those days they used go to the church in side-cars so all the neighbours met them almost at the church with lights of various kinds and they used follow them all the way home sometimes maybe a journey of four or five miles, then there used be big fires lighted on the way-side and people standing at their doors waving 'good luck' as the married couple sped past. Then the people on the side-cars used wave handkerchiefs and shout so loudly that it could be heard all over the village.
    It was also an old custom for the bride not to go to Mass on the first Sunday after her marriage, then it was
