As the boy peeped over the bannister, it broke, and he fell down. As he did so, the man and woman ran for their lives; they thought it was a ghost.
Then the boy came down and took the two half crowns, and the gun. Then he walked to Birr, and sold the gun for two pounds. He walked home next morning with the two pounds, and the two half crowns in his pocket. He told the story to his parents and they were delighted to see him home again.
