This man was the best (man) mower in County Galway. He could mow an acre of hay and oats with his scythe in a day. His wages were very low. He only got Two Shillings a day.
There was a man living near Kilkerrin at this time. He was also a good mower. One day there was a fair in Kilkerrin. The two men met there. They were drunk. The mower from Kilkerrin said that he was a better mower than the Clonberne man. The Clonberne man was vexed. They began to fight. The Guards made peace between them. They settled to mow a day's work each and who-ever would mow the most would be the best mower. After this they both went into a field of oats. They began to mow. The man from Clonberne was the best mower.
