    Sixteen families and sixty five people made up the population of this little historical village of Kilbeg. It got its name from a small church which was built in the time of St Patrick but was destroyed during the Danish Period in Ireland.
    The Islands river flows through the middle of it on its way to the Suck and the land north of it is rich and fertile, but in the south and southward the land is poor, and boggy.
    Kilbeg has one small but historical lake called "loch na muca" because it is in the shape of a pig. The old people say that once it was a beautiful chuch surrounded by a large beautiful town, but it was enchanted and drowned by a lady known as the "Lonely " Lady" .
    They say that if you walk by the lake on a moonlight night you could see the town and some people say that it was from it the village got its name.
