- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)then covered with straw. the cross when completed was placed in the roof of the house beneath one of the rafters and it was supposed to keep away evil spirits from the house until St. Brigid's Day again. Those crosses were left o the roof until they fell down and there were often as many as forty crosses and in this way the age of the house was known. Also on St.Patrick's Day the young girls used to wear crosses on their left shoulders.
Those crosses were made form cardboard covered with differently coloured ribbons or strips of silk, and they were usually made by the mother of the house. The local people have such great faith in St. Patrick that when they go to(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
