- 1. Local beliefs with regard to the weather.
(a) When the clouds are very dull and are moving fastly through the sky it indicates rain.
(b) When there is a red sunset in Summer it means fine weather but in Winter it means frost.
(c) When there is a rainbow the same side as the sun it means that some days of rain will follow.
(d) when the wind howls round the house there is a storm approaching. 2. Signs of the weather as observed in the sky.
(a) Sun.
They believe that if when the sun is rising in the morning the sky on the same side is very red it indicates rain but if it is red when setting in the evening it indicates fine weather. There is an old poem which the people of this district often quote:
"Evening red and morning grey
Helps the farmer make his hay.
But evening grey and morning red
Pours down rain upon his head."(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
