- In Poll an Airgid in the parish of Abbeyknockmay there is a spring well, with a hawthorn bush beside it. Beside it there is a hole with a black cat minding it. In the hole there is gold, and the black cat comes out every night at two o'clock. It is said that somebody will be called from his sleep at this hour by a voice, and that he will have to go to this spot. He may bring some one with him and if this man has a good shot he can shoot the cat with a bullet which has a cross on it, that is a bullet made out of a two shilling piece. He will then get the gold. If he doesnt shoot the cat, the cat will kill him, and there will have to be nine lives lost before the money can be got.
