- The people used to travel on horse-back. The men used to go in front and the women behind them with a cushion under them they used to call that "Cullóg. They used to gallop like that. Even at a funeral they used to carry the corps in the cart if they had a long journey to go and if they hadn't they would carry it on their shoulders. Jack Wards mother died in the Mental hospital Ballinasloe and they brought the corps down all the way in a horse-cart. It was Dermot Mannion of Brierfield that drove the horse and when they landed in the burial ground of Kilerrin the horses were steaming.
My Grandfather in Black-forty-Seven met a boy on the road wheeling his dead father to the burial ground of Kilkerrin and nothing around him but a straw-mat. My Grandfather also saw how the people were buried in Black-Forty-Seven. One night there was a lot of people playing cards in Ballystack and among them was a man that had great courage and he was not afraid of anything. The others made a bet with him that he would not go to Kilkerrin Graveyard and get the skull(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
