- The one legend that is known to all the children as well as the older people of the glen and firmly believed is that of the dobhar cú.
In Conwell graveyard – already referred to is a remarkable gravestone. On it is carved an animal half dog and half a fish with a spear stuck in his side it is engraved the name Grace Connolly and the date 17 in roman characters.
Grace Connolly was a native of Agliamore a townland bordering Co Sligo. She married a man named McLoughlin who lived on the eastern shore of Glenad Lake. Mc Loughlin’s brother lived with him. A young family grew up.
At the time there lived in the lake two creatures a male and female half animal and half fish. The people living on the shore lived in great fear of these creatures and for no apparent reason.
