Crosses. In nearly every country house there are crosses made on St. Brigid's night and put up in the roofs of houses. These crosses are generally made of straw.
Hobs. In almost every old country houses there is a hole in the wall each side of the fire. Long ago the old people used to keep their pipes in them. Some of the holes are square while the most of them are the shape of a smoothing-iron. Nearly every person keeps the smoothing-iron in them yet.
