- (continued from previous page)butcher shop for a very small price. It was brought home and boiled in a pot for about a half an hour. It produced a very thick substance which is called grease. Then it was put into jars and it was rolled round the rushes. Each candle was about one foot long and when night came they were lighted and placed in a kind of candlestick stuck on wood and left in the middle of the floor.
