Oh! Venus I'd have you remain in your lair
Our females outdo you I vow and declare
You ne'er would have obtained the famed apple from Paris
Had it been contended in Tottenham's Fair.
The Gods that resided on lofty Mount Ida
The musical nine have forsaken their hill
In one combination this place in their station
Appolo is playing both lofty + shrill.
Whole crowds of spectators in lofty gazebos
And platform stages aloft in the air
In sweet Kiltyclogher for their recreation
Resounding the praises of Tottenham's Fair.
Before I conclude I must get a full bumper
And drink to great Tottenham long may he reign
Enjoying the pleasure of sharing his treasure
In kindly benevolence where it was gained
A friend to his tenants of every gradation
His peoples, his wealth + their freedom his care,
And sages unborn in sweet Kiltyclogher
Will drink to the gentleman founded their Fair.
Written by an itinerant ballad singer named Michlas McCarthy about 1857 a native of Co. Sligo whom I remember to have seen + heard sing in his own "Kilty" about 48 years ago. J.Kenny
Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
