A trout was caught in a river or lough and while still alive the person suffering from neuralgia would open his mouth and let a drop fall off the trout into his mouth. - "Local Marriage Customs and Ssuperstitions."
Wedding superstitions still exist in a small degree in this parish. The following old rhyme as regards the lucky and unlucky days on which to wed is common belief among the people:-
"Monday for health,
Tuesday for welth,
Wednesday the best day of all.
Thursday for losses,
Friday for crosses.
And Saturday no luck at all."
The month of June is considered lucky. While May is regarded as an unlucky month for marriage.
The colour of the Brides gown is another problem, in the past yellow was the wedding colour, but this was changed to white in order to prevent evil spirits from taking posession of the bride. Green is an unlucky colour for a wedding.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
