Tradition tells us that the Danes built them as place for camps.Various stories are told about the forts and people who are supposed to inhabit them.Two men coming from Dowra had no match to light their pipes. Come on quickly said one of them we will get it on our way. When they came to Greaghnafarna fort one of them called to the 'good people' in the fort for a light. A burning turf coal was left on the ditch.Forts were haunted by 'Will-of-the-Wisps'.Bonfire night June 1879 the people of Drumnalass tried to light a fire in Drumnalass fort but failed.
