- In the month of October the farmers generally dig out their potatoes. For the purpose of digging a spade is used.The farmer mounts the ridge and begins to dig on the left hand side. He cuts equally between the two stalks so as not to injure the potatoes.He throws out the sod and hits it lightly with the spade and lets the sod fall back into the furrow throwing out the potatoes upon the levelled ridge.
