- The French on their way from Castlebar to Ballinamuck passed through Drumshanbo. They crossed the Shannon at Ballintra Bridge two miles from Drumshanbo. when they were across, they broke the bridge to prevent the enemy from coming after. They spent one night at Drumshanbo, one section encamping at Mahanagh and the other near the town where the curates house now stands.ODuignan the famous harper played in their camp that night. One of the Sentries was shot by a man from Drumshanbo named Monaghan and he was buried at Murhawn. After this all of the name of Monaghan had to leave Drumshanbo and are supposed to have settled at Mohill.Money buried.
