- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)he saw the serpent.
His body he says was twice as thick as the largest oak tree in Drumharney and as black as the ace of spades. About half of his body appeared and it went up forty feet in the air. The two eyes in his head were blazing like two creels of turf and the size of two fair sized creels of turf.
The swish [underlined] of the water as he rose and spun round went out almost a quarter of mile of each side of the river.
The water of the river was muddy for miles after he lay down again.
He could not describe his head any fuller. He says it would strike terror into the hardest heart even that you knew well that he was chained there and could not harm you.
Mrs OBrien (R.I.P.) a sister of Kate Mahons of Deffier also saw the serpent and the water he splashed out [hit her?] when she was milking a cow.
The serpent was last seen in 1928. This year he should appear again. For so far I heard nothing.
The children say that if we had not so much talk about him he might appear. Evidently his Satanic Majesty is offended.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
