Her owner made minds to sell so one summer morning about half past five they entered the field where she was grazing to bring her to the fair. What did they see but a big black cat sucking her. There are many other stories such as the cow that was brought away by the fairies and came back in seven years with her seven calves.
There are many superstitions in this district about milking and "churning" such as: A person who entered a house while "a churning" was going on was not allowed to leave without taking "a turn at the churn." This was done because the people believed you would bring the butter with you if you did not kassist in the making. Nobody was allowed to bring a coal out of the house while a churning was making for the same reasons. Another custom was to put a little coal under the churn or sometimes the "sock of a plough". There are many stories of the bringing of butter by certain people and strange to say these people had always the reputation of having plenty of butter.
