- Nearly every field on my fathers holding is known by its name. GortngCeactaso called from the field of the ploughs, because before the land was divided every one on the Island had a portion of this field, and in the Spring ten or eleven ploughs were to be seen at work together.
CURRAC DUBHNearly the half of our land is called Currac Dubh because it is of a boggy nature and of a blackish colour.
GORT TOBAR GARBHso called because it has no shelter from any wind, and is therefore very rough. This is a small field; it only contains about a half an acre.
GARRAIDHE BÁNthe white garden because the grass that grows there is a whitish colour. This field contains about an acre.
GORTNACRAthe acre field because it contains one acre only
CNOC NA GAOITHEso called because it is exposed to the lake and to the prevalent winds in this Island.
