There was and are yet a great many composers of songs around Oughterard.

    Some
of the names are Mick Kennavey from Portacarron Willie Barr from Old Chapel who died a great many years ago. Pearse Darcy from Magheramore and Martin Mc.Donagh from Doon. This is the song that Mick Kennavey composed.
Cuffs and Collars and starch contrays
    contrary
My curse may fall down hot and heavy on
    Jane and Mary
    Another song he composed was
Here is Mary and here is the fairy
    Always mending and sowing.
What do you think of that behind in
    the bed.
Refused me for a hour's mowing.
