- St Brigid whose feast is celebrated on Feb. 1st, was born in Leinster but spent her childhood and a considerable part of her life in Connacht. Her mother was one of the O'Connors of Connacht and her father O'Duffy, the chieftain of Louth. Shortly after Brigid's birth her mother took the babe to the kingdom of the O'Connors and here in the little village of Breedogue in Co. Roscommon, "Mary of the Gael" spent her early days in the home of her fosterfather who was the Druid of that place and said that she should be sent back to him. In her father's home she became so unhappy that she requested his permission to return to Connacht. After some hesitation he agreed and her return to Breedogue(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
