- Long ago, the Irish people had "pisreoga" about marriages. Shrove time they thought was the luckiest time to get married. There were no motors that time. The married couple had to go on horseback. The man sat in front and the woman behind. There used to be ribbons tied to the horses tail, and flowers used to be tied to her mane. As a dowry the girl got clothes. The night of the wedding fires were lighted at the cross-roads. As the couple passed the boys used to hold up the furze sparkling and blazing as they were to welcome the newly married pair.
