- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Long ago when there were no candles or lamps people used rush lights. The rushes were got in bogs and taken home in bundles and peeled. All the covering was not taken off but a little bit was left on each rush to support it. Whey they were peeled they were dried. This was done by placing them over the fire on sticks from one hob to the other one. When they were thoroughly dry they were greased. they were then tied in and were placed in a dry place and were used when required. In every house there used to be a grisset for melting lard to dip the rushes into when required
