Ar an leathanach seo
- The preparation of the Potatoe
crop is very important. First the
land is dug with a "laede". Then
manure is spread on the surface of
the ridges. They bring the manure
with asses and pardoges. The principal
manure applied to the potatoe crop is
farm yard manure.
The drills or ridges each
average twenty inches in width. When the
planting season arrives, the potatoes
are cut into what we call "splits."
Each "split" contains two or three
eyes.
In the cutting of the "splits"
care has to be taken to choose
the right seed. The champion potatoe
was for a time the best for seed
but now it is out of date, the
farmers disapproved of it in recent
years. The variety of the potatoe should
suit the soil.
The potatoes are planted or
set with a "Steveen" a tool used
in this locality. Three holes usually
