- The name of this district is "Dooncaha" which means the "fort of the battle". In early ages there were many battles fought there. Long ago there was a very nice song composed about "Dooncaha's Lovely Heights". This district contains no woods, or forests. It was a district in which the lords and ladies came to hunt the deer. There are at the present day in Dooncaha forty three families and two hundred and three persons. The most common name is Mulvihill, and Slane is the most uncommon. There are six people getting the old age pension. None of the old people know Irish stories, but they can say names of somethings in Irish.
