- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)fairies because the fairies used to lift the newly married couple and carry them away to the forts.
III. The fortune given in those days was a cow or two, and the bride always got a chest, and it contained a blanket, a quilt, and some sheets and pillow cases.
IV. At the wedding feast they have music. No-body is allowed to dance until the bride and groom has the first dance, that is to give them honour. The "straw boys" also go to the houses, when they think the supper is over, the boys of the village that are not guests, dress up and disguise themselves by putting on straw hats over their eyes. They were something like the mummers or wrenboys. They behave very well. They have a captain, who puts them in order. They sometimes ask for drink, but in case they ran short of drink, they ask for money instead, and go and drink the newly married couple's health at the nearest inn.- Bailitheoir
