“There was a child one time in a cradle and he never had spoken.”
-
There was a child one time in a cradle and he never had spoken.
His mother was going to the chapel, and she told the workman to mind the child while she was away.
When she was gone, the child asked the man would he like to hear a tune and he said he would.
The child took a Bag-pipes from under his head and began to play. He used to send out the man to see was the woman coming back.
This time she was outside, and heard the music. The man told her to say that Rathmore fort was burned to the ground last night.
When she came in, the man asked had she any news, and she said that Rathmore fort was burned down last night.
When the child heard this he jumped out of the cradle saying, "O, Begorra, my wife and children an all burned," and he went out the door and was never seen since.- Bailitheoir
