- Ballyfarney is part of Gleneaskey which Extends along the valley of the Easkey River. My home is in Ballyfarney Parish of Kilmacshalgan in the Barony of Tireragh, county Sligo. The Gleneaskey school is also in it.
There are eighteen families also in it. There are ninety-six people in it. The most common name is Walsh. The other names are, Herbert, Browne, Beglane, McCann, Dunleavy, Tiernan, MacAllister, McNulty, Keane, Flynn, Taylor.
Ballyfarney is so called from the number of alders growing in it. There were a few more houses long ago around John Walshe's. O'Neill's was one and they live now about a mile away in Comcuill.
There are two old people living now in Ballyfarney Michael McCann, Mrs. Beglane. Many left this townland and went to America and England and Scotland. The land is boggy and hilly. The river Easkey which rises in Lough Easkey and flows into the sea at Easkey flows by this townland. The streams in this townland(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
