When the potatoes are stuck the furrows have to be dug. Then the mould has to be broken. Then the artificial manures are shaken on the ridges. Then the mould is put on the ridges to cover the manure by means of a shovel. All this work is known as the setting of the potatoes.
When the potatoes are set the furrows are dug and broken again. When the stalks come above the ground they are moulded. They are kept wed and afterwards sprayed every fortnight from the first of July until they are sprayed about four times.
Everybody begins to dig the early potatoes about the middle of July. Then the men begin the digging of the late potatoes(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
