There was a linen mill in Bleach Road at the foot of the Convent lands. It was owned by a man named Rowley. The flax was bleached there for the purpose of whitening it. The mill was worked by the water of the river "Ab's Solus". The field is still called "Rowley's field".
Farther up in Lyre there was a brick kiln owned by Cornelius Murphy. It supplied the bricks for the building of the town of Miltown.
Miltown was one of the principal towns in Kerry at one time. Various trades were carried on there.
There was a weaver in the place where the Church is now built. His name was Paddy Hogan.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
