  1. Near the shores of Lough Gill in Co. Sligo is a Holy Well called Tobernault. Stories differ as to how it got its name. Some say it is so called because it is under a cliff others say it is Tobar na nGealt and people who were mentally affected used to come and drink the water.
The well is closed surrounded with bushes which are littered with rags of every colour. Those who visit the well for cures tear some piece off their garments and tie it on a bush. As the piece of cloth wears away so too will the affliction. A clear stream flows from the well to Lough Gill and in this stream the affected parts are bathed.
During Penal Times mass was celebrated at an old stone Altar quite close to the well. The place around being densely wooded there was ample place for priest and people to hide. Stations were performed there. Certain prayers were said while crossing the stream barefooted.
