- O Downds' Castle
Beside the sea at Easkey there is an old castle called O Dowds' castle. This castle was built about the year 1500 by the O Dowds who were the old chiefs of TIereragh. They lived in this castle until the reign of James I. During his reign they lost all their lands. There is a story told about a bell in this castle. There was a bell and also an underground path going from the sea to the castle. In this passage there was a net for catching salmon. When a salmon would be caught the bell would ring. You can climb to the top of the castle on the stone steps which served as a staircase. There is a great view of the country all around from he top of the castle.
