- Once upon a time there was a shop in the parish of Killoran. One day the shopboy was behind the counter writing when he saw a big black dog going in through the shop. He got a box of matches and started looking for the dog. He looked around everywhere and he could not get the dog. So he threw away a lit match and where did it fall but into a barrel of powder and blew up all the house. But the dog never was got and it was said that it was the devil in the form of a black dog. It is said also that a black dog is unlucky.
