- Long ago there were no doctors or nurses. The people cured them-selves with certain herbs for each disease These herbs were usually to be found growing in the fields or in vegetable gardens. Most of these herbs are forgotten or done away with since medicine came into use. Each herb was known by a different name. These names were usually taken from the Irish language by the old people. The herbs were used in different ways. They were sometimes eaten raw, sometimes boiled while at times the juice of them was only used. The sick people were usually cured by these herbs. Some of these herbs grow only on bad land while others grow(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
