It would "put luck" on a young couple who had no family if they were both sponsors for the same child. It was not considered lucky to cut a child's nails before it was a twelve months because if you did he would be a thief when he grew up. it was also unlucky to cut his hair for the same reason.
If no chickens came out of the eggs set, it was a sure sign of a death in the family that year.
