- Once upon a time there was a house and it was haunted. The people of the house built another house and used the old one as a stable in which they kept an ass and a cow.
One night from the village opposite Portnacrinnaugh there came a man to borrow the ass to bring a load of turf to Boyle. Well and good he went his journey and as it was winter time it was quite dark when he came to return the ass. The man of the house was out when he came and the woman told him to put the ass in the stable. He went down to the old house and passed the lone hawthorn bush which was outside it. He was sort of frightened but he tied the ass(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
