- Long ago the people in our district had three square meals in a day.
Breakfast at 8 o'clock.
Dinner at 1 o'clock.
Supper at 7 o'clock.
The people worked for two hours in the morning before taking food.
For breakfast they had either yellow buck baked on a griddle or their own wheat ground into flour.
For dinner they had potatoes, fish and milk.
For supper they had stirabout and milk.
Milk was used at every meal, and it was called skim milk. The table was placed near the settle bed to accomadate the large families. When not in use the table was hung up against the wall.
Yellow buck was the name of the bread they used. It was made of Indian meal, sour milk, and baking soda
Meat was often eaten, but it was mostly salty meat. Pork that was generally eaten. Cabbage and turnips were boiled with corned pork or beef, and sometimes cabbage was boiled and mashed up with sour cream, pepper and salt.
