- Hens, Horses, Cows, Pigs and calves are usually kept by farming people. Hens are the chief fowl which are kept by farmers but they keep ducks, geese, turkeys, and guinea fowl as well. These are very useful for laying eggs and for killing. Hens differ in names size and colour. Light Sussex are big white hens with a black circle around their necks. Barn Velders are middle sized red hens, and so on according to their names. All sorts of fowl must be enclosed in pens at night in this district because of foxes. These hens are houses which are divided in two by wire one side for laying and the other side having perches to sleep on. Horse are very numerous(continues on next page)
