- Weather Lore.
When you would see the sun setting red and clear it is a sign of good weather. When the clouds are heavy and black it is a sign of rain and when the wind blows from the west it is the sign of very bad weather.
When you would see the moon sideways on the sky it is a sign of bad weather and when it is straight it is a sign of good weather. To see red stripes on the sky on the sky towards the north is a very bad sign of the weather. When the swallows fly high it is a good sign. When the sky is red towards the south it is a sign of storm. When the dust rises off the roads it is a sign of storm. When the soot falls off the chimney it is a sign of rain.
